Stronger Women, Stronger Somaliland
Women are the heart of Somaliland’s communities — they raise families, sustain households, and hold societies together through hardship. Yet too many women in Somaliland face systemic barriers to education, economic participation, and leadership. Our Women’s Empowerment workstream is rooted in the conviction that no community can truly thrive when half of its members are held back.
We support programs that give women access to education and vocational training, equipping them with practical skills that lead to economic independence. From sewing and tailoring cooperatives to business management courses and microfinance opportunities, we help women build livelihoods that give them financial security and a voice in their own futures. An economically empowered woman lifts her entire family and her community.
Our work also focuses on health and well-being, ensuring that women have access to reproductive health services, mental health support, and information about their rights. Many women in Somaliland lack basic knowledge about their own health, which leads to preventable illness and suffering. We partner with local health workers and women’s groups to deliver education and resources directly to those who need them most.
We champion women’s leadership at every level — from the household to the community to civic institutions. We support women who want to run for local office, lead community organizations, or become advocates for change. When women lead, communities benefit from more inclusive decisions, stronger social cohesion, and better outcomes for children.
Above all, we stand for the dignity and equal worth of every woman in Somaliland. Our programs are designed not only to provide resources but to shift mindsets and build a culture where women are respected, protected, and celebrated as full and equal members of society. A Somaliland where women flourish is a Somaliland where everyone flourishes.
