Stronger Women, Stronger Somaliland
Women are the heart of Somaliland’s communities — they raise families, sustain households, and hold societies together through hardship. Remarkably, women run the majority of Somaliland’s small businesses, and their earnings often serve as the primary force keeping children in school. Yet too many still face systemic barriers to education, economic participation, and leadership. The Somaliland American community believes no community can truly thrive when half of its members are held back.
Our vision is to support programs that expand women’s access to education, vocational training, microfinance, and business development — building on the entrepreneurial strength women already demonstrate every day. When we invest in a woman’s livelihood, we invest in her children’s futures and the economic health of her entire community.
Women’s health and well-being will also be central to our mission. We aim to ensure women have access to reproductive health services, mental health support, and knowledge about their rights — delivered through local health workers and women’s groups to those who need them most.
We will champion women’s leadership at every level — from households to civic institutions — supporting those who seek to lead, advocate, and drive change in their communities. Above all, we stand for the dignity and equal worth of every woman in Somaliland. A Somaliland where women flourish is a Somaliland where everyone flourishes
