Protecting Our Environment for Future Generations

Safeguarding Somaliland’s Land, Water, and Climate

Somaliland is on the front lines of climate change. Prolonged droughts, soil degradation, and deforestation have put enormous pressure on the land and the communities that depend on it. The Somaliland American community is committed to reversing these trends through community-led conservation, reforestation, and sustainable land management.

Tree planting and reforestation will be among our core priorities. Trees prevent soil erosion, restore water tables, and provide vital habitats for wildlife. We plan to organize volunteer tree-planting campaigns in partnership with local schools, youth groups, and community councils — making environmental stewardship a shared responsibility across generations.

Clean water access will be equally central to our mission. In many parts of Somaliland, water remains dangerously scarce. We aim to support rainwater harvesting projects, well rehabilitation, and community education around water conservation to help stretch every drop as far as possible.

Waste management and pollution awareness are also key pillars of our vision. We plan to partner with local governments and community leaders to launch clean-up campaigns, promote responsible waste disposal, and reduce plastic pollution across urban and rural areas. A cleaner environment restores dignity and pride in the communities we serve.

Looking ahead, we will advocate for policies that protect Somaliland’s natural resources and train local environmental champions — connecting them with global networks of knowledge and support. A healthier environment means a more resilient Somaliland for every generation to come.
